Dr. Lai studied marriage and family therapy in the United States and obtained her Illinois Marriage and Family Therapist license years ago. After practicing as a therapist in Illinois for a number of years serving children, teenagers, couples and families with severe behavioral and psychological issues, she pursued doctoral studies in clinical psychology at California School of Professional Psychology in order to further improve and broaden her clinical skills and knowledge.

Dr. Lai has also been trained and employed at various organizations in Mainland China and Hong Kong, such as hospital psychiatric inpatient and outpatient unit, non-government organization, private counseling center, university etc., providing services in psychotherapy, consultation, assessment, counseling and research. She has also received additional training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as well as premarital/marital assessment and counseling using the PREPARE/ENRICH Inventories.

Dr. Lai is experienced in providing psychological treatments and services to clients with depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, social anxiety, post-traumatic stress, psychosis, conversion disorder, couple relational distress, extra-marital affairs, work/academic stress, familial/interpersonal relationship distress, childhood behavioral and emotional problems, self-esteem issues, personal development, and insomnia. She is also experienced in providing premarital counseling, parenting consultation, as well as training in communication and emotional management skills.

Dr. Lai is especially passionate about providing parenting training with focuses on both behavioral concepts and practical applications. She has conducted psychoeducational talks and workshops for parents and professionals at NGOs and private organizations.
