Dr. Chan has worked for over 10 years as a clinical psychologist in public hospital, university and private practice. She has served as honorary clinical supervisor for Master of Social Sciences (Clinical Psychology) trainees of HKU and CUHK. She has provided clinical supervision to social workers and other mental health professionals. She specializes in providing psychotherapy to adolescents and adults. She is experienced in providing psychological treatments to clients who have depression, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, perinatal mood problems and adjustment difficulties to serious illnesses (such as cancer, chronic pain, cardiac disease, stroke, and dementia). She is dexterous in helping clients confronted with crises and various life stressors, such as bereavement and problems with family, relationships, work, study, self-image, and personal growth and developments.

 

Dr. Chan conducted research in positive psychology and neuropsychology. She has authored and co-authored in academic research papers and psychology-related publications. A research paper on neuropsychology that she co-authored, was awarded HKU’s Research Output Prize. She has received training in different psychotherapies, such as Emotion-focused Therapy for Individuals: Theory & Skills Training, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, 7-day Intensive Foundational Training in teaching Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy from Oxford University’s Oxford Mindfulness Centre, Mindfulness-based Emotional Balance Teacher Training, Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction, Inner Relationship Focusing trainer training, and Focusing-oriented Arts Therapy. Dr. Chan is passionately keen in the psycho-education on promoting psychological well-being, resilience and emotional balance with Mindfulness and Focusing – a mind-body practice used for enhancement of emotional intelligence.

 

Dr. Chan specializes in delivering psychology-related training. Over the years, Dr. Chan has been invited by different organizations (including private companies, NGOs, churches, Universities, and schools), to conduct numerous psychology-relevant trainings for social workers, mental health professionals, University staff, students, parents, medical patients, chaplains, and general public.
