Dr. Tam has been an educator and administrator in his early career. He then studied Bible, theology, and individual, marriage & family counseling at China Graduate School of Theology. After working as a psychological counselor for many years, he completed the master and doctoral programs in clinical psychology at California School of Professional Psychology. Besides, he has finished two years of advanced professional training in New York State of the United States. He was then granted with a license in clinical psychology after fulfilling all licensing requirements and examination in New York State.

Dr. Tam has over ten years of clinical experience in treating different kinds of psychiatric, psychological, emotional, couple and family problems. He has also been trained and worked in Hong Kong, China and the United States by providing psychological assessment and treatment in different settings: hospital psychiatric inpatient unit, psychiatric day treatment center, psychiatric outpatient clinic, child counseling center, as well as recovery center for drug abuse/alcohol abuse/pathological gambling.

Dr. Tam has studied different therapeutic approaches including psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, existential therapy and narrative therapy. When counseling his clients, he will choose the most appropriate treatment with the consideration of their problems and individual needs.

From time to time, Dr. Tam has been invited by different organizations, churches and schools to deliver talks/workshops about mental health education. He is also a part-time lecturer of a tertiary institute and seminary to teach psychology and counseling related courses, as well as supervise students to learn the practice of psychotherapy.
